Brisbane Bird Boarding

Brisbane Bird Boarding was created in 2007 due to the high demand for a quality companion bird boarding facility in Brisbane and surrounds. Since 2014 Brisbane Bird Boarding has been operating from the D’Aguilar Wildlife site, in Wamuran, at the start of the Moreton Bay Hinterland.

Hannah Gallagher is one of the directors, she has grown up with a menagerie of birds and a very strong veterinary background. Her father, Dr Adrian Gallagher, is a well respected avian vet and the proud owner of Brisbane Bird Vet, Queensland’s only exclusive avian practice. Hannah has worked with her father as a veterinary nurse since 2003 to present.

Hannah, along with her partner Ben, strives to make a quality bird boarding facility where your bird will be comfortable, healthy and happy.

Brisbane Bird Boarding is a disease screened boarding facility.  This means that all birds are required to undergo an annual health examination with an avian vet as well as disease screening to minimise any risk of disease transmission. To board at Brisbane Bird Boarding, your bird must be up to date with their annual health check by an avian vet and be screened for Psittacosis and Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease, if applicable for the species.

$15 per day for small birds (Budgie, Cockatiels, Conure etc)

$20 per day for medium birds (Galahs, Corellas, Eclectus etc)

$25 per day for large birds (Large Cockatoos, Macaws etc)

This includes fruit and vegetables, pellets/seed, foraging and enrichment, out of cage time, daily cage cleaning and TLC for your companion.  If your bird likes any special fruit, vegetables, or treats you are welcome to provide them for your birds stay.

We believe enrichment is an important aspect of a birds stay.  We provide fresh native browse weekly and natural perches for all hire cages.  If your bird is used to food based enrichment at home then we recommend that you bring along all of their foraging toys for us to continue to provide during their stay.  We keep Breeder’s Choice Newspaper based Kitty Litter in stock and will happily provide this as a foraging medium for boarding birds.

If you are boarding multiple birds in the one cage there will be extra charges for additional birds.  We also provide multiple cage discounts.  Please contact us directly for a quote.

We provide a 10% discount for stays over 2 weeks as well as long term discounts for stays over 2 months. We are available for long term stays.  Special care birds may attract a surcharge.

We don’t provide in-house toys during a birds stay but we have partnered with Beaky Things to provide an exclusive “Holiday Box” for Brisbane Bird Boarding customers.  This box can be ordered prior to your birds stay and will be sent directly to us (with no postage fee charged), ready for your birds stay.   The box contains 4-5 toys and can be customised especially for your bird.  A order form can be found here or on your booking confirmation email.

In early 2014 we relocated to Wamuran.  With a huge thank you to Brisbane Bird Vet we can arrange pick ups and drop offs at their premises located at Chermside during clinic opening hours.  These pick up and drops offs are by prior arrangement only and available on selected days.  Please contact us directly for current availability.

Pick up and drop offs are available at Wamuran 7 days a week.  Our drop off and pick up times are 9-10am and 4-5pm.  These are by appointment only and our address will be provided at the time of the booking.  Outside of hours appointments are available but surcharges may apply.

Do we need to bring a cage?

We do prefer that you bring your bird’s normal cage.  We find that birds are usually more comfortable in a familiar environment.  If this isn’t possible then you can hire a cage from us for an extra fee, in which case we recommend you bring along all your birds favourate toys and foraging aids to make their stay more comfortable.  Please let us know if you require cage hire when booking.

Do we need to provide toys, covering and treats?

Yes, we do have cage covers if you forget to bring it but we prefer your own as your bird will be used to it.  We do have a small amount of foraging toys available but we do like you to bring your own as this is in short supply.

Will my bird come out of the cage for exercise?

Absolutely!  Every bird comes out of their cage for daily exercise.  The length of time does depend on the number of birds we have boarding at that time but we make sure that everyone gets time out of their cage.

My birds wings are not trimmed, will this be an issue?

Not at all.  Our own pet birds are flighted so we are very conscious of flighted birds. Our facility also has a double door system so if your bird is also a houdini there is no risk of escape as people enter the room.

Will my bird have access to veterinary treatment if needed?

Yes, Hannah is a avian veterinary nurse and is able to detect abnormal behaviours in different bird species.  If there is any sign that your bird is displaying signs of illness you will be contacted and a veterinary exam will take place with your approval.  When leaving your bird with us we do ask for a secondary contact person so if we can’t contact you we will contact them for approval.

My bird requires a lot of enviromental enrichment, will this be provided?

Of Course!  We believe that a happy bird is a busy bird and birds require a lot of enrichment to keep them busy during the day.  We will provide as much foraging for their food as we can and all your foraging toys will help us to do this!
